According to sources, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied forces have regained control over several military bases in the Bhamaw offensive that they were previously forced to abandon. “Here, there are battles almost every day. But yesterday’s clash was unlike anything before. It was the most intense fighting in the entire Bhamaw offensive. That’s why the bases we had to give up were recaptured,” said a military source.

During the clashes, junta forces launched heavy airstrikes and also coordinated ground attacks with two military columns involving the No. 11 Military Medical Battalion and the No. 5 Battalion. Because of this, on September 24, KIA and allied units had to withdraw from three military posts in Bhamaw, namely the 3 Mile Base, the Shwepyitha Base, and the KBC church Hill.

However, those same three positions were attacked in a counteroffensive by KIA and allied forces and were successfully recaptured on the afternoon of October 1, according to reports. The ongoing Bhamaw offensive, which has been escalating for about ten days, continues to see heavy clashes daily, while the junta’s air force is still carrying out almost daily bombing raids.
