The Irrawaddy River in Myitkyina has risen again, reaching a water level of 756 centimeters as of 6:30 am today, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology. The river is steadily climbing toward the official danger mark of 1,200 centimeters, currently standing 444 centimeters (about 14.5 feet) below that threshold.
Officials report that increased cloud formation and moderate rainfall in northern Myanmar and the upper Irrawaddy region are contributing to the gradual rise. The water level is expected to continue increasing steadily, but authorities emphasize that the current situation remains within normal seasonal patterns and there is no immediate risk of severe flooding.
Earlier this June, heavy rains in upper Kachin State caused the Malikha and Maykha rivers to overflow, surpassing danger levels and resulting in floods. At least five people lost their lives, and many homes, roads, and bridges were damaged, causing significant hardship for local residents.
