Drug-Free Campaign and Arrests Conducted in KIO-Controlled Areas

The Kachin Independence Organization/Army (KIO/KIA), in cooperation with its Drug Eradication Committee and community-based anti-narcotics committees, has carried out drug-free operations and confiscated a significant number of drug users and drug-related items during the month of April, according to a statement released by the KIA Information Department.

It was reported that during ongoing joint anti-drug efforts in some areas under KIO control, a total of eight drug dealers, 164 yaba tablets, two units of heroin soap, and two packets of yaba were seized within one month.

In addition, community-based anti-drug committees in the Hpakant region, working together with local groups, conducted anti-drug operations in areas including Gwi Hka village, Jan Mai Hill, Sapaw Hmaw village, and Yae Pyin village. In these areas, seven drug dealers, 177 yaba tablets, five small packets of heroin, 27 yaba smoking pipes, three heroin pipes, other drug-related materials, and a small amount of cash were confiscated.

Furthermore, in Battalion 9 area, on April 25 (Kachin Anti Drug Day), various drugs were publicly destroyed by burning, including 67 small packets of yaba, three bottles of heroin, three bottles of soap-based drugs, three bottles of methadone, three bottles of “speed” drugs, one viss of black opium, and other narcotics.

The KIO/KIA has been prioritizing drug eradication efforts and has been implementing these operations through organized groups such as the anti-drug organization (Pat Jasan).
