From January 1 to February 18, a total of 22 children under the age of 18 were killed across the country, according to a statement released yesterday by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).

Among the deceased were 11 girls and 11 boys under the age of 18, including a two-month-old infant, bringing the total number of child fatalities to 22.

Most of the deaths were caused by airstrikes carried out by the military junta, accounting for 19 of the fatalities. Sagaing Region and Magway Region recorded the highest number of child deaths, with six in each region.

On January 29, in Le Bo village, Indaw Township, Sagaing Region, the military carried out an aerial bombing attack. As a result, eight local civilians, including three-year-old Ma Yu Wati, were killed after being struck by bomb fragments.

Previously, on February 3, in Hpakant town, Kachin State, two children — seven-year-old Maung Aung Ti Kyi Phyu and 13-year-old Maung Sut Ja Aung — were killed when heavy artillery shells landed and exploded.
