In Seng Tawng Village, Hpakant, Kachin State, liquid waste released from engine oil processing was dumped into a nearby stream, causing a strong foul smell to spread throughout the town. As a result, some residents have experienced dizziness and vomiting, according to local sources.
On February 5, due to the burning of engine oil, the entire town was covered with a bad odor. In addition, the remaining liquid waste was dumped into the stream, causing residents to feel nauseous, dizzy, and uncomfortable.
February 5, which was yesterday, also marked Kachin Revolution Day. On that day, the military junta carried out airstrikes on KIA controlled areas. Because of this, local residents initially believed that chemical gas or chemical substances had been released by the junta, leading to widespread fear and panic, according to residents.
It was only this morning that residents realized the smell was coming from engine oil processing waste that had been dumped into the stream.
