Fighting Forces Indefinite Closure of Myitkyina–Shwebo Highway

It has been reported by drivers that many vehicles are stranded as fighting is ongoing in Kyauktan village along the Myitkyina-Shwebo road, and the military council has closed the Shwebu gate indefinitely.

The military council has blocked the Shwekopein gate along the Myitkyina-Shwebo road, stopping vehicles going uphill while allowing only downhill vehicles, causing long delays for travelers.

“One can go downhill, but going uphill is completely blocked,” a driver said.

In addition, fighting has also occurred along the Myitkyina-Mandalay strategic road, affecting vehicles and travelers.

Since December last year, the military has controlled the Myitkyina-Mandalay strategic road, and frequent clashes between both sides, along with road blockages, have caused hundreds of trucks to be stranded and resulted in significant damage and loss of goods.
