Four Civilians Killed and Around 23 Injured in February

Intense battles and indiscriminate shelling have directly affected civilian-populated areas in Hpakant, Waimaw, and Mansi townships. In February, four innocent civilians, including young children, were killed, and around 23 people were seriously injured.


Residential neighborhoods, IDP camps, and basic infrastructure such as secondary schools were not spared from the attacks. On February 2, heavy artillery fired from the military council’s strategic positions in Hpakant city struck the city center and Nga Pyaw Taw ward. The shells hit a secondary school compound, damaging the KG school building, injuring a 10 year old male student and a female student. Additionally, in Mashikhtawng ward, a civilian suffered injuries to both legs from artillery fire.


On February 3, two children were killed by artillery shells, and around 14 civilians were injured. On February 16, three children living in the Wuyan IDP camp in Ward 3 of Waimaw city were struck by artillery.


On February 21, three civilians were hit in a bomb attack on Nbapa village in Mansi township. On February 22, two unidentified men were killed by gunfire from an armed group in Yuma village, Hpakant township.
