Two civilians who had returned to their native village from a displacement site were injured after stepping on a landmine near Nam Ya Village in Hpakant Township, according to sources.

The victims were identified as Daw Mahkawn Lu, 50, from Ward (3) of Nam Ya Village, and her 10 years old son.

The incident occurred on March 8 at around 1:30 PM, when the mother and son returned from the field where they were temporarily staying as displaced persons to check their home in the village. On their way back, they reportedly stepped on a landmine planted by military council forces, which then exploded.

Due to the explosion, the mother sustained injuries near her thigh, while her son suffered shrapnel wounds on one of his feet. They are currently receiving medical treatment in a safe location.

Local residents living along the Hpakant road have been displaced due to ongoing fighting and are staying in nearby areas. Some are also living independently in forests and farmland areas.
