According to local residents, the military junta has detained and seized large cargo trucks that usually pass through the area and is holding them at the Mai Na football field.

A local resident said, “On February 2, all the trucks that were passing through were forced by soldiers to drive into the football field. There were also soldiers inside, guarding the area. They are still being held until now. We don’t know if they will have to be released by paying money. It seems they did this because there were reports that they were collecting a lot of money from cargo trucks.”

It is further learned that the detained trucks are being kept inside the Mai Na football field, with more than 50 cargo trucks currently there, and police are guarding them.

Since last week, military tensions have increased in the Waimaw–Lamyang area. On February 2, after the KIA joint forces attacked and seized a checkpoint run by the militia that was collecting toll fees on the Mai Na-Washawng road in the banana plantation area, such detentions of large trucks have reportedly begun.

At present, as military operations continue to intensify on the Waimaw front, the Waimaw-Washawng road remains closed.

Although reports have been spreading in local news that junta forces have occupied the Mai Na IDP camp, local residents said that in reality, there were only military movements on the day of the fighting, and no permanent deployment has been established.
