The military junta announced that, in commemoration of Farmer’s Day on 2 March, over 7,000 prisoners and detainees who had been imprisoned under terrorism-related laws were granted amnesty.

Among the total of 7,337 prisoners held under Section 50 (b) and Section 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law, three from Myitkyina Prison in Kachin State and six from Moenhyin Prison were included in the amnesty.

In addition, the junta stated that 9,532 ongoing cases of those prosecuted under Section 50 (b) and Section 52(a) have been closed as part of the amnesty.

Although the military junta announced that over 7,000 prisoners were granted amnesty, according to PPMN’s statement on 2 March, only a total of 3,613 prisoners from 31 prisons across Myanmar have actually received amnesty.
