It has been reported that heavy clashes are taking place between KIA joint forces and the military junta in the Ka Mai (8-mile) area along the Hpakant road, after junta forces advanced with a full scale military column.
According to reports, the junta began advancing with a large military column in the Ka Mai area on December 6. Due to resistance attacks launched by KIA joint forces, intense fighting has continued, and nearly 200 local residents have been forced to flee into nearby forests and mountains for safety.
Residents say that although the junta is carrying out public mobilization campaigns to build support for holding an election inside Myanmar, on the other hand, it continues its offensive operations without pause. As a result, they say the push for expanding territory to prepare for the election is the junta’s real intention.
Clashes in Hpakant, Bhamaw, and Waimaw areas of Kachin State have become increasingly intense, with no fewer than 15 engagements reported within the past week.
It is also reported that daily attacks with heavy artillery, drones, and air dropped bombs continue, causing a large number of civilian casualties.
