In recent days, thefts and robberies have been increasing in Myitkyina city, Kachin State, and today, another robbery reportedly took place, according to local residents.
On March 3, in Aye Seti ward, two women were riding a motorcycle when a man chased them on another motorcycle, snatched their belongings, and fled the scene.
A local woman in Myitkyina city said, “Earlier, one of my friends was also on her way to a class when someone stopped her on a motorcycle and snatched her belongings. Such incidents happen frequently now; Myitkyina city is no longer safe.”
The same woman reported that at around 7 a.m., while going to her class near the Chinese school, two men on a motorcycle suddenly stopped in front of her, forced her to release her belongings, and snatched them.
Residents said that due to the widespread opening of gambling dens across Myitkyina city, criminal activities have increased. Burglaries into homes, motorcycle snatching, gold chain snatching, and thefts of valuables such as wallets and phones are happening frequently.
