According to a statement released by the Kachin State Government Office, sand dredging operations are currently being carried out beneath the Bala Min Htin Bridge in Myitkyina City, Kachin State, as part of efforts to prevent flooding along the Ayeyarwady River.

Myitkyina City experiences flooding almost every year during the monsoon season. As a result, sand dredging and clearance beneath the Bala Min Htin Bridge are being undertaken as one of the key projects aimed at improving the river’s water flow and protecting the city from floods.

It is reported that while the sand dredging and clearance work under the bridge is ongoing, measures are also being taken to ensure that there is no negative impact on surrounding communities.

The State Chief Minister has inspected the project and emphasized that sand and gravel transport vehicles must adhere to designated weight limits to prevent damage to urban roads, comply with traffic regulations, and ensure the safety and well-being of city residents.

However, discussions on social media claim that, under the pretext of flood prevention, large-scale gold mining is still being carried out beneath the Bala Min Htin Bridge in Myitkyina City.
