Six People Killed in Hopin Town

It has been reported that a six-person killing occurred yesterday, March 4, around 11 PM, in Hopin Town, Mohnyin Township, Kachin State.


The incident took place in the Mya Thar Yar Ward of Hopin Town. A local resident said that neighbors initially thought it was a domestic dispute between a husband and wife and did not pay much attention.


"Even though we heard screams calling for help, we thought it was just a quarrel between the husband and wife. The man was beheaded and the woman was killed in the bedroom. The whole family three adults and three children, six people in totalwere all killed," the resident said.


On the morning of March 5, a child who came to fetch water saw the scene and only when calling their mother, who was selling goods nearby, did the surroundings become aware of what had happened.


According to locals in Mya Thar Yar Ward, the main door of the house was open for someone to enter, and the safety box in the front yard was wrapped in a cloth.


Follow-up reports indicate that in the front yard of the house, 41 year old U Kyaw Myat Oo was found dead from knife wounds. In the front bedroom, 42 year old Ma Mi Mi (a house helper) was also found dead from knife wounds, along with 11 year old Maung Hpone Khant Kyaw.


Furthermore, in the back bedroom, U Kyaw Myat Oo’s wife, 27 year-old Daw Ei Phyu, was found dead from knife wounds, along with 9-year-old Ma Yu Wati Kyaw and Ma Yun Wati Kyaw, who were also killed with knife injuries.


At present, those responsible have been investigated, and actions are being taken to open a legal case regarding the incident.
