From January 1 to May 13 of this year, a total of 105 children under the age of 18 have been killed in attacks by the military junta’s forces across the country, according to a report released by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). Among the victims, 53 were girls and 52 were boys.
Sagaing Region recorded the highest number of child fatalities with 34 deaths, followed by Magway Region with 21 deaths. Additionally, 89 of the children killed lost their lives due to airstrikes carried out by the junta.
On May 12 alone, a military airstrike targeted a school in O Htein Kwin village, Depayin Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in the deaths of two teachers and 20 students—totaling 22 fatalities from explosion.
Despite the junta’s extension of the ceasefire period until the end of May, daily airstrikes and artillery attacks continue. On May 8, a monastery in Bhamo town, Kachin State, was bombed twice by junta aircraft, killing at least 15 displaced civilians and injuring more than 30.
