111 Prisoners from Kachin State Included in Myanmar New Year Amnesty

A total of 111 prisoners from Kachin State were included among those granted sentence remission as part of the Myanmar New Year Day commemoration on April 17, according to reports.
Altogether, 4,335 inmates from various prisons across the country were granted pardon and sentence reductions in observance of Myanmar New Year.
Among those released were 111 inmates from Kachin State, 103 from Rakhine State, 397 from Shan State, 133 from Mon State, 1,058 from Yangon Region, 8 from Kayah State, and 161 from Kayin State.
In addition, releases also included 127 inmates from Sagaing Region, 51 from Tanintharyi Region, 417 from Bago Region, 291 from Magway Region, 642 from Mandalay Region, 363 from Ayeyarwady Region, 608 from labor camps, and 44 youths from training schools under the Department of Social Welfare bringing the total to 4,335 individuals.
It is reported that the pardons and sentence reductions were granted under Section 401, Subsection (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code, reducing the remaining sentences of eligible prisoners.
