According to local residents, the road between Hpakant, Namya, and Kamai, which had been blocked since April 22 due to the military situation on the KIA side, has been reopened today, May 27.
The reopening was reportedly done to allow the movement of goods into and out of Hpakant town, as well as to enable students to travel to school during the school reopening period, according to sources.
Although there has been no official announcement from the KIA regarding the reopening of the Hpakant-Namya-Kamai road, local residents say that since around the second week of May, large and small vehicles as well as some traders have begun traveling again, with motorcycles operating under permission from the military council.
However, since the military council is controlling the road and has been reinforcing troops into Hpakant town, local people are concerned that renewed fighting along the road could lead to another closure.
