The Mandalay-Myitkyina strategic highway, which had been closed for an extended period due to the military situation, has been reopened by the resistance forces starting from yesterday, May 27, according to drivers.

Although the Command Office of Katha District under Military Region No. (1) had announced a temporary closure of the Mandalay-Myitkyina strategic road due to intense clashes between the two sides along the Indaw–Mawlu–Katha road, it is reported that the previously closed road was reopened starting yesterday.

On the other hand, due to the ongoing fighting situation, the Hpakant-Kamai road, which had been indefinitely closed by the KIA side, was also temporarily reopened yesterday to facilitate the transportation of goods into and out of Hpakant area and to allow students to travel conveniently during the school reopening period.

Due to the road closures caused by the fighting situation, many cargo trucks, passenger buses, and civilians had reportedly been stranded along the Mandalay-Myitkyina strategic highway and the Hpakant-Kamai road.

Since the military launched renewed offensives at the end of April, fighting has intensified again in those areas, resulting in frequent road blockages.
