133 Civilians Killed, 117 Injured in 2025

In Kachin State, 133 civilians were killed and 117 others injured during 2025 as a result of airstrikes, heavy artillery shelling, and drone bomb attacks carried out by the military council, according to a statement released today, January 7, by the Kachin Human Rights Watch (KHRW).


According to KHRW’s statistical records, during 2025 there were 17 cases of arbitrary arrest, 133 deaths, and 117 people injured. In addition, KHRW stated that throughout 2025, civilians in Kachin State suffered mass casualties due to military council attacks, with no fewer than five such incidents reported.


In January 2025, an airstrike on the kasanlun gold mining area in Tanai Township killed 15 civilians and injured 10 others. In February, another airstrike by the military on Daw Hpum Yang town in Momauk Township killed seven civilians, including three children, and injured five others.


In March, an airstrike targeted a location inside Bhamaw town where displaced civilians were sheltering, resulting in the deaths of more than 30 civilians, with others also injured.


On June 7, a military drone attack on the Lone Khin area of Hpakant killed nine civilians. Similarly, on September 29, a military airstrike on the Sadung area of Waimaw Township killed eight civilians and injured six others, according to KHRW.
