At least 19 people, including six children, were killed and 18 others injured in Kachin State during September as the military council continued attacks on civilian populations using air strikes, drones, and heavy artillery, according to Kachin Human Rights Watch (KHRW).
The statement said that throughout September, the junta carried out continuous attacks on civilians in townships including Waimaw, Sawlaw, and Hpakant, deploying jet fighters, drones, and heavy weapons.KHRW further urged international organizations to immediately condemn and respond to the junta’s airstrikes, stressing the need for sanctions and strict restrictions to prevent the military council from purchasing aviation fuel, weapons, and military equipment.
It also highlighted the urgent need for emergency medical treatment and psychological support for the dead and injured, the creation of safe environments for children to live and study, the establishment of early warning systems to alert villagers of impending air attacks, the development of basic infrastructure to allow safe evacuation, and increased international humanitarian assistance due to the rising number of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
