According to a statement by the Myanmar Women’s Association, at least 34 women lost their lives and 49 were injured across the country during June as a result of airstrikes and other violent acts by the military junta.
The women killed or injured suffered as a result of airstrikes, heavy artillery bombardment, gunshot injuries, deliberate killings, landmines, beatings, and sexual violence.
Since the attempted coup on February 1, 2021, the military junta has committed various war crimes and human rights violations against different communities throughout its four-year rule, using multiple forms of violence and repression.
This month, reports also indicate that the junta has ramped up airstrikes beyond previous months, expanding and intensifying its violent operations.
