404 People Arrested Under Election Law

As many as 404 people have been arrested under the election law enforced by the military council, according to a statement made yesterday in Naypyidaw at a meeting of the Election Period Security Supervision Committee by Lieutenant General Tun Tun Naung.


Among the 404 individuals arrested under the election law, 324 are men and 80 are women. The military council enacted the election law in late July 2025, and the law stipulates penalties ranging from a minimum of three years’ imprisonment up to the death penalty for violations of its provisions.


At present, it was stated that Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the election have been successfully carried out, and the remaining Phase 3 of the election is scheduled to be held on January 25.
