55 Women Killed, 54 Injured During January

Due to human rights violations by the military junta, 55 women were killed nationwide during the month of January, while 54 others were injured, according to a statement released by the Burmese Women’s Union (BWU).


The majority of the fatalities were caused by airstrikes, accounting for 46 deaths, followed by heavy artillery shelling, which killed seven women, and extrajudicial killings, which claimed the lives of two women. Among the deceased were four girls under the age of 18 and two pregnant women.


Sagaing Region recorded the highest number of female fatalities, with 20 deaths, followed by Rakhine State with 10 deaths, and Kachin State ranking third with eight deaths.


Similarly, throughout the year 2025, a total of 792 women lost their lives and 815 others were injured as a result of the military junta’s aerial and ground attacks.
