71 Women Killed in April Due to Junta’s Airstrikes and Artillery Fire

In April alone, at least 71 women were killed across the country due to the military junta’s airstrikes and heavy artillery attacks, with 13 of them being under the age of 18, while 50 others were injured, according to a report released by the Burma Women’s Union.


The data on women casualties was collected from monitoring and documentation between 1 April and 30 April.


Of the 71 women killed, 59 died in the junta’s airstrikes, 7 were killed by artillery shelling targeting civilian villages and homes, and 5 were murdered by the terrorist military. Among the victims, 13 were girls under the age of 18.


Additionally, among the 50 injured, 40 were wounded in junta airstrikes, 5 by artillery fire, 4 by landmines, and 1 was harmed due to sexual violence committed by the Arakan Army.


According to the Burma Women’s Union’s report, the highest number of female fatalities were recorded in Sagaing Region (30), Mandalay Region (14), and Bago Region (5).
