It is reported that mother and three children, who were injured by a landmine while they were herded cows on the side of the road near Than Tapyin village, Mohnyin Township, in Kachin State, are struggling for their living.
At the time of getting injury due to the landmine, the woman was pregnant and about to give birth, and was admitted to the Myitkyina Hospital along with her two injured sons.
While she was in the hospital, the woman’s ex-husband came to Myitkyina Hospital and took the money donated by the charity organizations, so she was in trouble.
It is said that this woman is a person with a mental disorder, and currently in the state of ten days labor (gave birth to a fourth child), and lives with her mother, who is over 60 years old.
“Before this case, they herded cows for living. One grandson died because of a landmine, one of them had to have his leg amputated, the two-year-old child still doesn’t understand much, so he always tantrums and Ma Ni recently gave birth to a child and is unable to work. I am working odd jobs to feed them. And it just gets 6000 kyats per a day. As it’s odd jobs, it’s difficult for me to get the job every day. After a while, it became difficult to eat and drink for our living,” said the woman’s mother.
It was found that the SAC accused People’s Defense Forces for the civilian landmine incident. But on the Facebook page of Mohnyin People’s Defense Army’s Mohnyin K-PDF battalion, they disclaimed that it was not done by the People’s Defense Forces.
There have been frequent incidents of heavy artilleries near Than Tapyin village, Mohnyin Township, and on August 4, 2023, a woman from Than Tapyin village was also had a hand amputated.
