In Hpakant Township, Kachin State, the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) won with more than 1,000 votes in Phase 3 of the election, despite a very low voter turnout, according to an announcement by the military junta.
The Election Commission stated that during the election held on January 25 in Hpakant Township, only just over 3,000 voters cast their ballots due to exchanges of gunfire between the two sides while voting was underway.
In Phase 3 of the election, the junta opened a total of 19 polling stations across village tracts in Hpakant Township.
Although junta troops had taken up security positions in Hpakant Township ahead of election day, voter turnout remained very low due to ongoing armed clashes between the two sides.
It is also reported that since late May 2025, the junta has been conducting ground offensives in an effort to regain control of Hpakant Township, while also carrying out continuous aerial bombardments.
