After the capture of Chihpwi area by KIA combined forces, the KIO Anti-Narcotics Committee led the operation against narcotics. According to the KIO Information Department, in the second round of anti-drug operations, more than 60 heroin users were able to receive treatment.

It was reported that the Central Anti-Narcotics Committee under KIO, which is responsible for the eradication of narcotics in KIO controlled areas, has been leading strict measures to ensure the elimination of drug users and traders in the region.

Since the military coup in 2021, the responsible administration from the government side has been absent, resulting in a rise in robbery, crimes, and drug trafficking and abuse across Kachin State, which has become more visible up to the present time.

In recent times, drug users have been selling and using narcotics freely, even on roads, public highways, and crowded places, without any intervention from the government. The KIO has declared narcotics as a common enemy for all people and is carrying out continuous eradication measures to free the entire population from drug.

The anti-drug operations in the Chihpwi area were conducted between July 16 and September 17, and it was further reported that most of those who received treatment were young people of working age.
