Assassination of Nat Gyi Kone Ward Administrator

It has come to attention that the Nat Gyi Kone Ward administrator, U Htay Aung, was tragically shot and killed by an unidentified armed group. The incident occurred on March 26th at approximately 4:15 a.m. in front of Nant Mun Market, located in Nat Gyi Kone Ward, Nant Mun Town, Indawgyi Region, Mohnyin Township.

A local female grocer at Nant Mun Morning Market reported that "U Htay Aung’s wife sells steamed vegetables at the market, and he consistently sends her there. I encountered U Htay Aung at the market this morning and exchanged greetings. Tragically, at approximately 4:00 AM, the sound of a gunshot was heard, and U Htay Aung was found deceased at the scene."

The deceased Mr. Htay Aung, aged 53, was tragically shot and killed while accompanying his wife to the market. He sustained severe injuries to his head and hands, resulting in his immediate demise at the scene of the incident. Subsequently, his remains were transported to the Myitkyina General Hospital.

Regarding the recent shooting incident, the precise motive remains unclear according to local sources. It is believed that U Htay Aung’s involvement in compiling a list of young civilians for military service may have prompted the PDF to carry out the attack.

Additionally, warning letters from the PDFs against the collection of such lists have reportedly been found near Nant Mun Park in the Inndawgyi region.
