Due to heavy rainfall and flooding in the Laiza region, more than 40 students are now in urgent need of school supplies, clothing, and other necessary assistance.

The 40 affected students are currently studying at Alen Bum High School but are residing in displaced persons’ camps such as Je Yang, Hpun Lum Yang, Hpung Mai Yang, and Sut Mu Awng, after their homes were impacted by the floods. It is also reported that the school clinic at Alen Bum High School, which was washed away in the floodwaters, has not yet been restored.

Following the flooding, roads were damaged, causing temporary closure of the school. However, classes have now resumed as normal.

Although cleaning and sanitation efforts have been carried out in the affected areas of Laiza after the flood, rehabilitation work is still ongoing due to the extent of the damage.

In addition, many electricity poles were destroyed in the floods, and electrical connections were also damaged, causing a power outage for nearly a month. Electricity was only restored on August 25.

In the floods that occurred in the Laiza region during August, six people lost their lives, while 460 houses and seven bridges were damaged.
