It has been reported that at least three unidentified bodies, shot dead, have been found in Hpakant, Kachin State between July 1 and July 10, amidst ongoing intense military conflict in the region.

Since the arrival of military council troops and their incursions into Hpakant, the number of bodies found dead on the roads with gunshot wounds has increased. Most of the victims are reportedly between the ages of 30 and 45.

Hpakant is a region administrated by two different armed groups, making it impossible to identify the source or perpetrators of these killings.

On July 10, around 1:00 PM, a 45-year-old man, reportedly a sour pickle vendor, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in front of the SKY Hotel, east of Maw Si Sar Village, Lone Khin, Hpakant. The identity of the perpetrator remains unknown.

Locals say that since late May, when the military council columns entered Hpakant Township, civilian casualties from shootings have increased day by day.

According to local news sources, during the month of June in Hpakant, there were 6 bodies found showing signs of torture, 11 bodies shot dead by the roadside, and 2 more bodies recovered from ponds and streams.
