In the Industrial Zone Ward of Myitkyina city, Kachin State, local residents say they are being disturbed at night due to all night operations of dance shows and gambling dens.

Although Myitkyina is a city where a night curfew from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM is in force, gambling activities and dance shows are reportedly being held from around 8:00 PM until approximately 3:00 AM, causing nearby residents to lose sleep, according to a male resident of the ward.

“It’s been about four days now. From around 8:00 PM until about 3:00 AM, loud music is played at full volume, so we can’t sleep. I don’t know why they are operating whether it’s related to religion or not. There’s no signboard displayed at all,” the man said.

He added that the activities have been ongoing since January 22, and that multiple forms of gambling are being operated inside the venue.

“The stage show with dances and the gambling area are separated. There are hardly any people on the stage show side, but the gambling side is completely full especially with young people. From what it looks like, their main intention seems to be running the gambling dens. It would be better if this doesn’t continue for a long time,” he said.

Local residents also expressed concern that at a time when gambling and theft are already widespread in Myitkyina, the opening of additional gambling dens like this could further increase incidents of robbery and crime, and they do not want these operations to continue for an extended period.

Previously, on the night of January 14, police and security forces raided and arrested people at the Sun City casino operating in Tatkone Ward, according to past incidents.
