At least 30 unwashed jade prospectors, including company employees, died due to the collapse of Manar jade mine mud pond. Besides, it is difficult to rescue those who were caught in the mud-filled pond.
“At around 4 o’clock in the morning, the mud-filled pond started collapsing. There were almost 30 people in total. I don’t know the exact list. 4 people were rescued. Among them one died and the other three injured people were taken to the hospital,” said a company employee.
The mud pond collapsed at around 4 o’clock in this morning and many jade prospectors, including excavator drivers, died in the mud pond. So far, only four people have been found.
“It was a break time at that time, so almost all of the jade prospectors had already gone up to take a rest. In the jade mine block, there were just mechanics and excavator drivers left. So, most of those drivers and mechanics were caught in the collapse,” another jade prospector said.
It is said that, since the occurrence of the incident, the relevant officials cooperated and tried to rescue with a large excavator, but due to the large amount of mud, it was very difficult to rescue, and currently the rescue mission has been postponed.
One of the them being rescued till the time of reporting is dead. The other three were injured and were sent to Hpakant Hospital. And it was reported that at least 10 excavators and dump trucks in the company compound collapsed during the landslide.
The site that collapsed this morning was the jade mining site owns by U Cho from the Sharaw area along the Manar area.
