Banana transport trucks destined for China have reportedly been stuck for nearly a week due to the closure of the Nanzaw Road, a key section of the Myitkyina–Bhamo Road, according to travelers.
“A lot of people are finding it extremely difficult to use the Nanzaw Road lately. Even motorcycles are struggling to get through. One banana truck has already tipped over, and another is on the verge of toppling. Motorcycles are trying to get by through the sides under very tough conditions,” said a traveler.
Additionally, because of excessive extortion at military checkpoints, most banana trucks are now having to take only the Nawng Hkying Exit Route instead of the regular Maina Route for travel.
“The entire route is dotted with checkpoints run by the Junta military and it's allied militia, collecting over 700,000 kyats per banana truck and more than 50,000 kyats from cargo trucks. There are also KIA checkpoints, but they only check licenses and documentation,” the traveler added.
After the main Waimaw-Wuyan Road was blocked by the military, military-aligned forces established checkpoints along the Nanzaw Road, especially on the Maina Route, collecting tolls from passing vehicles.
