According to local sources, only basic food supplies are currently allowed to be imported at the Pang Wa border gate in Chiphwe Township, Kachin State.

Up to now, only consumer goods are permitted to be brought in through the Pang Wa border gate, while the transport of other commodities remains completely restricted by the Chinese authorities.

“Even though the gate is open, only vegetables and fruits are coming in; other goods haven’t been allowed to pass through the Chinese gate yet,” said a local resident.

The Pang Wa border gate is a major entry point for essential supplies such as rice, oil, and salt for the Pang Wa and Chiphwe areas, as well as for consumer goods and fuel.

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) joint forces captured the entire special region 1 of Kachin, including the small town of Pang Wa, by the end of 2024.
