Jeng Hpang Naw Tawng Becomes Deputy Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw

At the first regular session of the third term Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House), held this morning on March 18, U Jeng Hpang Naw Tawng was appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw, while U Aung Lin Dway became the Speaker.
U Jeng Hpang Naw Tawng contested and won as an Amyotha Hluttaw representative from Kachin State under the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) system, representing the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP).
For the third term Amyotha Hluttaw, there are a total of 224 seats. Of these, 168 seats are elected by the public through general elections, while 56 seats, representing 25 percent, are appointed by the military.
In addition, Daw Doi Bu, who also won under the FPTP system in Kachin State as a candidate from the USDP, was elected as a member of the Amyotha Hluttaw Chairperson Panel.
