In Myitkyina, Kachin State, some city roads have been damaged due to large sand and gravel trucks, according to local residents.
Sand and gravel are being dug and collected from Shatapru, Manhkring, and Shwezet river ports for flood prevention purposes, then transported by trucks.
As a result, in Shatapru Ward, Manhkring Ward, Shwezet Ward, and Njang Dung Ward, daily traffic of sand and gravel trucks has caused damage to certain main roads, residents reported.
“One of the sand and gravel piles is collected near No. 3 Middle School, east of the Myitkyina university, and another in the MB Bar area on Japan Road. The road in front of No. 3 Middle school is already quite damaged,” said a male resident of Shatapru.
The transported sand and gravel are also being stored at locations such as the truck unloading station near the Parliament, the Shatapru Japan Bridge truck depot site, and the east near the university (Chying Hkrang Nawng area).
The sand and gravel trucks have not only damaged the roads, but the dust from the trucks has also caused difficulties for roadside shop owners.
