The Bhamaw city offensive launched by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) on December 4, 2024, has now reached its full one year mark as of today and remains far from subdued.

The Bhamaw operation was spearheaded by the KIA, in coordination with local PDF units and allied revolutionary forces, according to sources.

Offensives were carried out simultaneously on both Bhamaw and Momauk towns. While Momauk was successfully captured on January 18, 2025, Bhamaw has yet to be fully seized and remains the scene of intense ongoing combat.

The Military Council forces have also been fiercely defending Bhamaw, deploying large numbers of troops and extensive firepower.

Among the weapons used by the Military Council are armored vehicles, various types of fighter aircraft, advanced night vision drones, surveillance drones, attack drones, suicide drones, and different kinds of jammers.

The Military Council has been reinforcing its manpower and weaponry via air and river routes. On May 20, resistance forces successfully shot down two Mi-17 transport helicopters delivering weapons and supplies.

During the Bhamaw operation, resistance forces managed to capture several key junta positions, including the Armored Battalion (7006), the Artillery Battalion (366), the Air Force base, the Infantry Battalion (236), and many other military outposts.

At present, resistance forces control most areas of Bhamaw city. However, they continue to assault the remaining junta strongholds the Military Operation Command headquarters (21), Infantry Battalion (47), and other surviving bases.
