According to the local residents, on December 9, the villagers objected for the second time to U Myint Aye (Mandalay) and Daw Archa Sel (Lungsha Yang), who were trying to mine gold with large excavator, when they were constructing a path with excavator at the tip of Lungsha Stream to get transportation access to mine gold.

Both of them were warned for the first time at the village public meeting on September 10th, and they have been informed that no gold mining will be allowed at the tip of the Stream.

In addition, on December 9, a total of 41 village elders, led by the village chief, went to Lungsha Stream, where they were preparing to mine gold, and warned them to withdraw, and forced them to stop their activities.

According to U Myint Aye’s group, the KIA/KIO Battalion 7 has given permission for this work to construct the road, and after the construction of the road, it has been said that they have reached an agreement that they will be authorized to work, but the residents have denied that there is no solid evidence.

The village elders said that U Myint Aye and Daw Archa Sel are not allowed to mine gold in the upper part of the stream and are being strictly notified that this is the last warning. It is said that effective action will be taken if they try to do their work again. After that, Daw Archa Sel was asked to sign in front of the village community on December 10 that she would not do any gold mining at Lungsha Stream.

Lung Sha Stream is a stream that flows through the center of Lung Sha Yang Village, and is a main stream that supplies water to thousands of acres of farmland, as well as a stream for potable water, according to local residents.

This is vital lifeline of the whole village and is used by thousand of people. Locals are protesting that if gold is mined with large machinery in the stream, the stream will dry up and it cannot be allowed at all cost.

Putao Township is composed with 14 villages and among them Lungsha Yang Village is the second most populated village with a population of about 800 people.

After the political change during the Covid-19 period, the number of gold entrepreneurs has gradually increased, and now it is known that there are many gold mining activities along the Malikha Riiver and in the tributaries of the Malikha River.
