The official border gates at Kanpaiti and Pangwa (Phimaw) on the China-Myanmar border in Kachin State remain closed. However, goods from China are being transported through Road No. 7 in Hpare and Lagwi villages, according to truck drivers.

"Since the gates are still closed, goods are being carried through Road No. 7 in Hpare and Lagwi. They are then loaded and unloaded at Mile 11 near Chiphwi, from where drivers distribute them further," a trader said.

All goods arriving from China are first transported to Mile 11 near Chiphwi via Road No. 7 in Hpare and Lagwi. From there, they are redistributed to Pangwa, Phimaw, Kanpaiti, Chiphei, and Myitkyina.

Although China had previously banned the transport of goods through Road No. 7, the route was reopened following requests from local residents in Hpare and Lagwi, a local source explained.

"At first, the Chinese side did not allow goods to pass through this road. But after locals demanded access, they reopened it out of humanitarian consideration and mutual understanding. That’s why goods can now be transported this way," the source said.

Most Chinese goods currently entering Myitkyina come through Road No. 7 in Hpare and Lagwi. The route has been in use for nearly two months.
