The military junta has launched an offensive and conducted military operations in the area under KIA Brigade No. (2), using heavy artillery, aircraft, and drone bombs, resulting in civilian casualties, according to local sources.

“Yesterday, they also dropped drone bombs. Recently, in the Tanai Gold mining area, heavy weapons have been fired indiscriminately, causing increasing injuries and deaths among civilians,” a local resident said.

Civilian casualties were also reported on December 18 due to heavy artillery fire in the Tanai Gold mining area. Fighting in the Tanai region has been ongoing since December 12.

In the Tanai gold mining area, including Helao, Rakhine Kung, and Lisu Kung areas, attacks using heavy weapons and drone bombs have been continuing on a daily basis.

The indiscriminate shelling by the military is believed to be due to their assumption that KIA forces are active near mining area.

In addition, shop owners and residents have begun relocating, commodity prices have risen sharply, and the price of rice has reportedly increased from around 150,000 kyats per sack to nearly 500,000 kyats per sack.
