Civilians have been displaced as fighting erupted between a State Administration Council (SAC) column and joint resistance forces (KIA/KPDF) near Namphyit village tract, on the side of Nyin Chan Thayar village tract, Lone Khin, during the Thadingyut full moon day.
While the clash was taking place, artillery shells fired randomly by SAC troops landed in Hkai Lung Hill area of Malang village, where two civilians were hit and injured by the explosions. In a separate incident, another artillery shell fell near Aung Yadana shop in Mashi Kahtawng ward, wounding two additional civilians.
After about a week of calm in the Hpakant area, the exchange of gunfire resumed on the morning of the Thadingyut full moon day. An SAC column of around 100 troops reportedly set up camp inside the compound of the San Taw Win Company, between Nyein Chan Thayar and Malang villages, and launched an offensive towards the Chyauk Sein Tawng area from the Hkai Lung Hill side of Malan village, leading to a clash between the two sides.
Residents from Malang’s Khainlon Hill area and Chyauk Sein Tawng have fled toward Nyein Chan Thayar and Lone Khin villages for safety.
