Civilians in Myitkyina Killed and Injured by Artillery Explosion

In Myitkyina, Kachin State, at around 6 p.m. yesterday evening, an artillery shell fired from the Northern Command fell and exploded near U Pain Bridge in Rampu Ward No. (12). As a result, a teenage girl was killed and two women were injured, according to local residents.


The deceased was a 13 year old girl named Ma Yu Tinzar Khine (also known as Chit Su Ma). The two injured victims were Ma Zin Min (20 years old) and Daw Ngwe (65 years old), locals said.


In addition to civilian casualties, the artillery explosion also damaged houses, motorcycles, and other valuable belongings, according to residents of the ward.


Locals also reported that in Myitkyina, the military has stationed artillery at the Northern Command (Ma Pa Kha) compound, at Kyet Paung Chan, and at the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) headquarters, and that artillery is frequently fired toward the Waimaw area.
