Fighting continues between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Myanmar military junta forces around Lamyang village near Waingmaw. Since May 23, junta troops have launched renewed offensives with heavy military strength, using drones and heavy artillery from the Myitkyina side to attack Lamyang village, leading to direct clashes.
A local resident reported that fighting remained intense through May 24, with nightly artillery fire from the Northern Regional Military Command in Myitkyina.
Every night, we hear the constant sound of artillery from Myitkyina. Military checkpoints are always active at bridges like Balamintin between Myitkyina and Waingmaw. We have to travel cautiously, said a Myitkyina resident.
Since May 21, military checkpoints and inspections have increased in Myitkyina, with authorities tightening checks on travelers and unidentified individuals.
Meanwhile, clashes also continue near Namtein village in Hpakant, and the Myitkyina-Hpakant road remains tense as of today.
