Following the intensified crackdown on unregistered vehicles, owners of car wash services, repair shops, and auto parts stores are experiencing significant economic hardship. Business owners report a sharp decline in customers, with some car wash operators stating that, after the crackdown, they now see only one vehicle a day, compared to over ten previously. This downturn has made it difficult to support their employees.

Mechanics also confirm that they are mostly working on vehicles left before the crackdown, with few new customers seeking repairs. Car brokers and dealers report a near halt in sales activity, as buyers have become scarce, even after offering discounts, there is little interest.

In Myitkyina, since late May, authorities have been systematically seizing unregistered vehicles after 9 PM. Those caught face fines ranging from 3 to 5 million kyats, and some cases go to court before vehicles are released. The crackdown has expanded to include motorcycles violating traffic regulations, with daily seizures occurring outside of school commute hours.

Recent reports confirm that unregistered vehicles are being confiscated nationwide, with authorities making large-scale seizures and imposing strict penalties. The crackdown has not only reduced vehicle movement but also created a ripple effect, severely impacting the livelihoods of those in the automotive service sector.
