In Hpakant area, Kachin State, shooting incidents occurred yesterday while the election was being conducted. Due to heavy gunfire from the military council forces, voter turnout was reported to be very low.

Although the Election Commission had tightened security in Hpakant area during the election period, it was reported that safety could not be ensured because of ongoing attacks by the military using aircraft, drones, and heavy weapons.

Since 24 January, the military council has continuously fired heavy weapons from the Hpakant strategic hill, causing injuries to some local residents as a result of the attacks.

In Constituency (3), which includes five townships in Kachin State- Momauk, Mansi, Hpakant, Bhamaw, and Shwegu, it was announced that elections could not be held in Momauk and Mansi townships. As a result, elections were conducted only in the remaining Hpakant, Bhamaw, and Shwegu townships.
