Due to increasingly intense and continuous clashes in the Waimaw area, displaced civilians in surrounding regions have been forced into prolonged displacement. They report that rice and other essential food aid have decreased, making conditions more difficult and constrained.
The displaced say that the World Food Program (WFP), has reduced its regular financial support, and in the worst cases, stopped providing assistance altogether. As a result, many households now receive no aid and are experiencing severe hardship.
Alongside the decline in aid, some families face not only food shortages but also growing difficulty in earning income, with unemployment becoming more widespread, according to the displaced persons.
Although in previous years organizations such as WFP and KBC undertook responsibility for assistance, at present transportation routes have become more challenging as the military has imposed heavy inspections, blockades, and confiscations. This has led to reduced aid delivery to the displaced.
In Kachin State, clashes that reignited in March 2024 have continued to increase the number of displaced civilians daily, with no reduction in their numbers.
However, food security and humanitarian support for them have become more restricted and difficult.
Currently, locals in Hpakant area continue to flee to places such as Mohnyin, Mogaung and Myitkyina due to ongoing armed tensions between both sides, and daily aerial attacks carried out by the military.
