Along the Tanai-Lido road in Warazup village, although a small number of residents who had fled due to clashes between the Min Zay Thant's militia force and KIA troops have returned to their homes, the majority still remain in hiding in the forests and mountains, it has been learned.
“There haven’t been many clashes recently. Sometimes, when the KIA comes out onto the road, we get a bit worried. The junta allied militia is moving around every day. The villagers want to return home. Since it’s the rainy season, it’s very difficult to stay in the forest, so some have started to come back,” said a Warazup local.
Currently, only about 30 households have returned to live in the village, while around 200 households are still hiding in the forests and mountains.
Among those still displaced in the forests are students, and it is reported that young children are struggling to continue their education under these circumstances.
The displacement of Warazup villagers began in March, when the KIA took positions around the outskirts of the village and the Min Zay Thant led militia launched attacks, forcing residents to flee. Those who have returned to their homes have done so since early July.
As the displacement occurred during the early monsoon season, residents have faced severe hardships, and there remains a need for further assistance and support.
