Although KIA joint forces have launched military offensives and have been controlling the road between Myitkyina and Bhamo since March 7 last year, it is reported that there are still many difficulties regarding children’s education in the area.
As the region is under KIA control, locals who had fled for years due to the conflict have now returned to their villages. However, they are still struggling because of shortages not only in children’s education but also in healthcare and other basic needs.
For education, schools are being opened only up to the primary level. Due to the lack of proper school buildings, classes are being conducted inside the houses of villagers who have not yet returned to their homes. Moreover, there is still a shortage of teachers.
Therefore, the locals have expressed their hope that the responsible government authorities will urgently address the most important basic needs such as education, healthcare, and access to electricity, during the village resettlement process.
It is also reported that some displaced persons wish to return to their hometowns, but have not yet been able to do so due to concerns about education for their children and healthcare for the elderly.
