In the liberated territories within Kachin State, many displaced people have returned to rebuild and resettle in their villages. However, they face difficulties due to the absence of health clinics for medical treatment, according to displaced persons.
"Now, many areas have become liberated territories. Because of this, most displaced people are trying to return to their villages. Many have already gone back. But there’s nothing in the villages for healthcare. The biggest challenge is the lack of clinics. Now, if someone gets sick and it’s a serious case, they have to go to the nearest town or Laiza for treatment," said a resident of the Ja Pu area.
Since many have been displaced for over a decade, people are clearing their land and resettling on their own. However, there are still many who hesitate to return due to the long-term absence of medical facilities.
Therefore, the locals are demanding that the responsible government urgently take charge of providing essential services, particularly education and healthcare, in their villages.
Meanwhile, in the China-border areas such as Laiza and Maija Yang, shortages of medicine have prevented children from receiving timely vaccinations, forcing them to travel to towns for injections. Additionally, children, lactating mothers, and pregnant women are increasingly unable to access nutritional supplements and vaccines due to insufficient medical supplies.
Currently, in villages along the Myitkyina-Bhamo road—including Gara Yang, Katsu, Dabak, Aung Ja, Nam San Yang, and Ja Pu—many people have returned after these areas became liberated territories. However, concerns remain over healthcare due to shortages of not only food but also medical supplies.
