In Kachin State, Myitkyina, prices of goods and chicken have been steadily increasing due to the lack of incoming cargo trucks, according to local housewives.

Starting from the last week of January, clashes broke out between the military council and joint revolutionary forces along the Mandalay–Myitkyina highway. As a result, cargo trucks and passenger vehicles have been prohibited from traveling along the routes passing through Indaw and Shwebo.

Because of the road closures, no goods have been entering Myitkyina city, leading to price increases for chicken, fish, vegetables, consumer goods, and construction materials.

Currently in Myitkyina, chicken costs 42,000 kyats per viss (a viss is approximately 1.6 kg). A whole domestic chicken costs about 20,000 kyats per quarter portion, amounting to nearly 80,000 kyats per viss. Fish is priced at 38,000 kyats per viss, tomatoes at 23,000 kyats per viss, and other commodity prices have also risen compared to previous levels.

In addition to the Mandalay–Myitkyina road being closed for military reasons due to ongoing clashes, travel along the Myitkyina–Kanpaikti route has also been restricted. Daily fighting between the military council and allied militia forces and the KIA joint forces continues to block passage on that road.
